Find out the answers to the most frequently asked questions about Tamarindo Sport fishing. Of course, if there’s anything not listed below that you’d like to know about Tamarindo sport fishing then please don’t hesitate to get in touch via our contact page. We’d love to hear from you.
Q: What all is included in a charter?
A: Our fishing charters in Guanacaste, Costa Rica are fully equipped with beer, soda, water and snacks on all charters. Lunch is provided on 3/4 day and full day charters.
Q: How do we pay for a charter and what methods of payment are accepted?
A: You make a deposit on our website on the packages and pricing page. For your convenience, we accept cash or credit card payment on the beach. Credit card payment has a 5% processing fee.
Q: How far in advance do I need to book a charter?
A: It’s best to reserve your date as soon as you know when you plan to be in the area.
Q: When is the best time of year to come?
A: The fishing is great all year round! For more information take a look at our post “Costa Rica Fishing is World Class”
Q: Where do we leave from and what time do we leave?
A: We leave from the beach near a restaurant named El Chiringuito, previously known as El Pescador. Typically a charter leaves at 7am, but we can be flexible.
Q: Do you practice catch and release? What do we do with the fish we catch?
A: Catch and release is practiced on all billfish and roosterfish. Other species like tuna and mahi mahi, grouper, and snapper, you keep what you can eat and release the rest. We can help make arrangements with a restaurant to prepare your catch.
Q: Can I bring my own fishing equipment?
A: Yes! You can absolutely bring your own equipment.
Q: Do I need a fishing license?
A: A fishing license is required for each member of the group who plans to hold a rod and reel in a fish. We have the step by step process on our licenses page.
Q: Can you accommodate large groups?
A: Yes! We are happy to have larger groups! We will work with other boats in the area to accommodate your group.
Q: Is the crew’s tip included in the price of the charter? How much do we tip?
A: The crew’s tip is not included in the price of the charter. A cash tip of 15-20% is customary.
Q: When I have finished my fishing charter in Guanacaste, Costa Rica what else is there to do in the local area?

Q: What is our policy regarding cancellations?
A: If you cannot make the date you have booked your fishing charter with us we will do our best to reschedule your trip.
If you need to reschedule or cancel your fishing charter please let us know as soon as possible.
If you cancel 30 days or more prior to your fishing charter we will give a full refund.
If you cancel within 30 days your deposit is non-refundable.
If a fishing charter needs to be cancelled due to weather conditions or issues out with our control we will work with you to reschedule the trip. If we are unable to reschedule the trip a full refund will be given.
If you need to cancel due to Covid-19 travel restrictions or illness we can reschedule your fishing charter to a date within the next 12 months.
